Lakeview, Chicago Holiday Event Guide 2019
Summer is great and all, but all of the best holidays are during winter, which is why we LOVE winter! We’ve created a Lakeveiw holiday event guide so you don’t have to take time out of your busy schedules to try to find what to do! Check out these amazing local events that you can attend with the family, or with your friends.
The Christkindlmarket is probably the best holiday event in Chicago. Thankfully, there are 2 locations – downtown in the Loop, and one in Wrigleyville that opened a few years ago. They’re both incredible, but we’re going to be bragging on the Wrigleyville location since it’s right around the corner!
At the market, you can find vendor booths selling all sorts of things – handcrafted wooden figurines, hand blown ornaments, German products (like nutcrackers), toys, clothes, and so much more! If you forget a scarf and need a new pair of gloves, this market has got you covered! And it’ll make a great souvenir.
The food here is also jaw dropping. Purchase traditional German food like potato pancakes, sausage, pretzels of all different flavors, and a large selection of candy. The hot chocolate is also great, and for a few extra bucks, you can get it in a souvenir mug.
Let’s get to the best part. The Gluhwein. It’s hot spiced wine. How could this not be the best part? Warm up and enjoy a drink while you’re out by Wrigley Field with all the booths and Christmas lights strung up. Safe to say, the Christkindlmarket at Wrigleyfield is a must have to put on your holiday event guide! It’s open from November 22-December 31.
For a less crowded experience, head on down to Southport row on December 6, from 5-9! Between Belmont Ave. and Irving Park Rd., stroll into the local businesses that stayed open late just for you! Check out their products and holiday specials – and if you’re lucky, you just might get a picture with Santa Claus himself. If you purchase a ticket, you can experience holiday-themed cocktails as well!
This might be the most unique event to put on your holiday event guide. From December 12-24, join many other Chicagoans as you sing Christmas carols led by Santa. After the caroling, sit back and watch the Christmas classic White Christmas. If you want a double load of Christmas, stay for a double feature and watch It’s a Wonderful Life. Started 36 years ago on a whim, this has become a classic Chicago tradition.
Buy tickets to the best Christmas pop up bar in Chicago! Covered in Christmas decorations, this bar offers a sensational holiday experience. Sip some spiked hot chocolate and other seasonal drinks. They even have weekly specials, and different events. Come on Thursdays for Christmas Karaoke, or ask your waiter anytime about the s’more kits and gingerbread house kits. Want to feel like a kid again? This is the perfect place for you!
Gallagher Way has the most to offer when it comes to holiday activities. Including the Christkindle Market, they offer ice skating, breakfast with Santa, a wreath workshop, and many more events that are year round! This is the perfect place for locals to celebrate the holidays and grow in the community.
Last of all, make sure you stop at Four Sided before you head out. This cute gift shop is far from tacky and goes all out for the holidays! Leave with the perfect add on to finish a gift, or purchase a fun Chicago souvenir (or just city pride) that is tasteful and far from touristy.
